Civil War US James Birdcage Shell Ground Burst. This scarce James Shell was recovered all together in the same hole. When fired, this shell hit hard into the ground where it detonated and blew into many pieces. A big portion of the shell is here but its most likely not fully complete. There are 15 pieces in total including a piece of its lead sabot. A few pieces fit back together as pictured. It’s very rare to find a ground burst James Shell. The location of recovery on this one has been lost to time.
