ID'd Confederate Civil War Grouping- Private Wilson Walls 23rd Reg NC InfantryI am offering for sale this amazing and all original ID'd
CONFEDERATE
grouping with provenance Private Wilson Walls of the 21st Regiment, North Carolina Infantry. I acquired this grouping from long time and respected Civil War collector/dealer in 2010 which includes a notarized letter of authenticity documenting the details of the grouping. I have shown and displayed this grouping at a number of Civil War shows in the Southeast over the years and no one has questioned authenticity, original nature, or wartime used vintage of the components in the grouping.
Items all with personal field engraving of his name, regiment, designs, etc.
The centerpiece of the grouping is Private Walls 9th Plate Tintype Image in regalia and signed on the back "Wilson Walls". The very clear image depicts him in NC Depot-style multi-button CS jacket. I took the image to Gettysburg (one of several locations where Private Walls fought) and photographed it on the NC monument and at the location where his regiment fought. I also found his death certificate and visited and photographed his headstone and his surrounding family headstones at Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Mocksville, Davie County, North Carolina. Using Ancestry.com also pulled together an extensive family history and related documents included as well. In addition, I prepared a Shutterfly book of each individual item in this grouping and other related information.
Private Walls was from Guilford County, NC; enlisted June 4, 1861 at 23; was wounded during the first days' fighting at GETTYSBURG, returned to fighting until Feb 3, 1864 after which he was officially documented as a deserter. Prior Private Walls had been inducted into the ROLL OF HONOR for bravery and courage, the highest Confederate honor.
The grouping consists of the following.
1. His original and ID'd 9th Plate Tintype image in CS Uniform with inscription "Wilson Walls" written in directly on the back of the image.
2. His Pre-War "US" Arrow Hook Belt Buckle & Belt Rig, typically worn upside down by Confederates to indicate "Southern Nation".
3. His Leather Cap Box.
4. His rare .69 caliber, CS-made Cartridge Box and "US" Boxplate with Original Tins.
5. His 7-inch fighting knife.
6. His pre-war Springfield Arsenal Smoothbore U.S. Model 1816 Rifle Musket Conversion with "W. Walls" engraved on the right side of the buttstock. Lockplate stamped "Springfield 1828" with 1827 barrel date. All markings clear and legible. 100% original and complete specimen to include ramrod, sling swivels, and nipple.
7. Copies of all the National Archive muster roles and documentation relating to Private Wilson Walls and his time in the Army of Northern Virginia.
Please don't hesitate to ask questions or request additional photographs of individual items as I am limited to only 12 for the listing and it would take 50 to do it justice. Hard to imagine a nicer grouping.
I also have several other ID'd "groupings" potentially for sale. If you are interested in additional details and prices please do not hesitate to request photographs or further information on these items.
