DESCRIPTION:
Only very recently discovered on the
South Shore of Massachusetts
and absolutely estate fresh and new to the marketplace, is this sensational and I mean sensational,
mid-19th century
US Civil War
original, authentic, period, medical nurse's field lamp, with reticulated, vented hinged front door and welded side lifting handles. The antique tin lamp was most likely used by nurses serving wounded, sick and convalescing
Union Army
soldiers and was produced at the onset of the
US Civil War
in the
early 1860's.
This well-used field piece still has remnants of its original green enamel paint, seen in its original glory behind the hinged front door and where it was protected from the elements by the overlapping door. The gold gilt stenciled solid paisley pattern is also evident on the tin lamp but especially around the door shadow on the body. Both welded and soldered with lead side lifting/cooling handles are intact and undamaged, as is the looped rear lifting handle. An extraordinary original, authentic
US Civil War
artifact and period item. If only it could talk.
Magnificent.
CONDITION:
Fair to Good overall antique condition.
